If you’re over the age of 50 and looking for work, your job search will involve leveraging a wealth of experience that could put you head and shoulders above the competition.
Be sure to use your CV to showcase specific achievements from past roles alongside any recent training or qualifications you have undertaken. Over time, you might have amassed many skills and qualifications, so it might be more advantageous for you to build your CV for the job role itself, and only include the skills you find most appropriate to the role.
If you want to continue working in the same field, personal connections can be invaluable so make the most of in-person and online networking opportunities.
You will be bringing stability and a mature perspective to the workplace- so be sure to think about roles that value experience, mentoring skills and strategic thinking. Consulting or freelancing could also work well as your extensive experience will be seen as an asset by prospective clients, and your hours would become more flexible. Remember that you hold a wealth of experience and skills, and that will lean to your advantage when you’re applying for roles.
By staying adaptable and open to learning new skills, you will be demonstrating that age is no barrier and that your experience should be viewed as a highly prized asset in a dynamic job market.
There are still many opportunities out there for you, and it’s never too late to try something new, or learn something new, if that’s what you would like to do. Your wealth of experience will be sought after by many different employers.
