Manchester recognised as a UNESCO City of Lifelong Learning

  • Published: Thursday, March 28, 2024

Manchester has been recognised as a UNESCO City of Lifelong Learning!
This is a fantastic achievement for Greater Manchester and the education providers within. The application went through a rigorous international application process, where the council had to demonstrate the city’s Lifelong Learning achievements and the world class skills offer, alongside their future ambition and commitment to strengthening our Lifelong Learning agenda.

Angela Harrington, Director of Inclusive Economy Growth and Development from Manchester City Council, had this to say:

“This is a great milestone within our journey to becoming the best UK city for adult education by 2025, establishing a platform for quality and inclusive adult education, from basic skills to higher education. However to enable all of our residents to reach their full potential and access the richness of opportunities across our city, there is more for us to do as education and skills providers, public and private sectors. The application’s success is based on the effort and input of so many people and partner organisations, making this a joint achievement, so congratulations to everyone involved.”
