Who we are: the Growth Company and the National Careers Service
The Growth Company is a not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to driving economic prosperity for individuals, communities and businesses. We provide a range of services that support people to prepare for, find and stay in work.
The National Careers service offers free, personalised and impartial confidential careers information advice and guidance to adults and young people to help them make informed decisions about their work, learning and training options.
Which role is right for you?
If you hold a level 3 qualification in advice and guidance and have the ambition to work towards level 4, you could be a careers adviser.
Our careers advisers carry out in-depth assessments of their customers’ skills, experience, interests, personal style and ambitions to create an individual action plan that details the steps they to take to reach their career goals.
Every day is different as you’ll carry out appointments with new customers, check in on how your existing customers are doing, link in with your colleagues to share information on new opportunities and network with external partners to drum up business.
You'll work with all different kinds of people with different needs, including customers who may have been out of work for a long time, who have health conditions or disabilities, those just starting out in their career or looking for a change.
Digital Careers Advisers
If you hold a level 3 qualification in advice and guidance and have strong digital skills, this could be the role for you.
You'll deliver the same high-quality careers advice and guidance to our customers via our multi-channel contact team. Using email, webchat and telephone, you'll assist customers with their immediate careers questions and understand their needs to provide the best support possible.
Our helpline supports young people from age 13+, as well as adults, so you'll need a good understanding of a range of career pathways including apprenticeships, traineeships, further and higher education.
Our contact team works flexibly and in shifts to cover our helpline from 8am-8pm Monday-Friday and 10am-5pm on Saturdays. We're happy to discuss the hours that work for you.
If you're just starting out on your career but have strong customer service and communication skills, you could make a great career coach.
Career Coaches work alongside careers advisers and their customers to help them progress into meaningful, sustainable employment and training. You'll deliver personalised support for each customer via email, telephone, SMS, group workshops, face-to-face sessions and webinars.
You'll develop strong relationships with key partners and agencies to make sure as many people as possible are finding our service.
There's also some admin work including report writing, using our CRM system, collecting and analysing management information, evaluating service delivery and auditing your own records.
We'll support you to develop in your career and step up to be a careers adviser when you're ready.
